We will strive to make you a better rider and jumper. We would love to be a part of your Summer equine experience! Come and join us we will enhance your personal riding experience. Ride 5 hours per day with us this Summer and with an indoor riding arena lessons go on no matter what!
We have been doing horse camps since the mid 70's and now with modern technology we have decided to use the web to expand our client base.
Our camps are available year round. Check the schedule for the available camp weeks and rates.
Girls and boys are both welcome. All ages are welcome however we find the age of 6 is an excellent time to introduce a child to a horseback riding adventure. We here at DSH are qualified to provide your child with individualized attention that make their stay a truly memorable experience.

How to sign up:
Fill out the Registration Form and follow directions on there to guarantee your space! Once your deposit is received, your space is confirmed. A Formal Enrollment Contract will be mailed out to you.
RIDING TIME:
Lessons will from 10am - 12pm, from 3pm - 5pm, and again after dinner to ensure 5 hours of riding a day.
There may be exceptions due to injuries, shoeing, sore muscles etc. We have enough horses to cover most situations but occasionally a rider may be asked to sit out. Some lessons are on green horses and some are desginated for your show horse.
Voluntary rest from a lesson or riding time will be respected if the student has prior approval from a senior staff member.
DSH has many young horses in training. We teach our students to do ground work using natural horsemanship methods.
Exceptions to the 5 hr riding time occurs occasionally. Such exceptions for shopping, ice-cream, pizza, Amish tour etc. Seldom has any student complained about not riding enough.
HORSE SELECTION:

Staff will assign horses to students based on riding level and compatibility. A list will be posted every morning listing the horses assigned to each student. Students may express that they have a favorite horse and the staff will take that in to account when assigning horses. During the first few days horse assignments may change frequently until the staff and students are satisfied with assignments. These assignments are always open to change as we believe riding different horses is important in order to grow as a rider.
Some notes from Virgil:
COMMUNICATIONS:
Communication with the instructor is vital. I will be happy to answer your questions. I will be teaching lessons and I want you to be happy and having fun while you are learning. Please talk to me personally if you have a problem.
- Virgil
EXPECTATIONS:
Having coached high school girls basketball and track championship teams in the past, I know what it takes to become successful. I expect you to be prompt, dressed properly and have your horse and yourself groomed properly. During lessons you should be paying attention to the instructor even when they are talking to another student. Horseback riding can be dangerous and our instructions are looking out for your protection and the protection of your horse.
Practice does not make perfect. Perfect practice makes perfect. If you do it wrong no amount of practice will make it right. Lessons are where you learn perfection.
You can expect DSH instructors to be professional, courteous and caring people. We will strive to give you a fun filled summer with lots of riding and show jumping.
Safety is our number one concern. We pledge to do all our equestrian activites in the safest possible manner.
